A martial art derived from jujitsu, judo made its first Olympic appearance in 1964 before joining permanently in 1972. Women’s judo was introduced at the 1992 Games. Canada has won five medals in Olympic judo competition.
Judo joined the Canada Winter Games program in 1971, only featuring male events before women’s events were added in 1987. Notable alumni include Nicolas Gill, Antoine Valois-Fortier, and Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard.
The Prince Edward Island Convention Centre adjoins Delta Prince Edward; the two combined offer over 50,000 sq. ft. of meeting space. The Confederation Ballroom boasts 24,000 sq. ft. of space, divisible into six separate rooms. Two sections of the ballroom offer floor-to-ceiling windows with a water view.
