1000th Volunteer Spotlight: Katherine Morrow

The 2023 Canada Games was happy to recently catch up with Katherine Morrow of Rustico, who signed on as the Games’ 1,000th volunteer.

“My husband is running around telling people he was either the 999th or 1,001st volunteer to sign up,” she laughs. “We signed up one after the other.”

It will be her second time volunteering with the Canada Games. Morrow was responsible for security in the residences during the 2009 Canada Summer Games in PEI. “I felt pride for PEI hosting the Games and I thought volunteering brought forth a sense of community and I enjoyed my time.”

Morrow said she had fun speaking with the athletes. “The level of dedication to their sport was interesting and I was struck that I was meeting future stars.”

Having honed her communication skills at the 2009 Canada Games, Morrow looks forward to putting her Games experience to good use once again.

She also looks forward to volunteering at the new rink and wellness centre in her hometown of North Rustico. “Many friends, neighbours and I hope to pull off a successful event at this arena.

“Knowing the people of Rustico and area, we are going to do a good job. It’s going to be fun.”
