CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Jess Cameron and Luke Beck will be the head coaches for Prince Edward Island’s hockey teams on home ice when P.E.I. hosts the Canada Games in 2023.
Hockey P.E.I. announced the staffs for the girls and boys teams on Tuesday, June 29.
“With the next Canada Winter Games being hosted right here on P.E.I., we believe we have assembled two coaching staffs that will establish first-class programs that players and Islanders as a whole will be proud to support,” said Jeremy Pierce, Hockey P.E.I.’s chairman of development.
Cameron, a Stratford native, played at Castleton University in Vermont from 2012-16. A goalie, Cameron was named a CCM all-American and the team’s MVP in 2016.
She was on the Central Storm under-15 AAA team’s coaching staff this year and has experience with the Holland College Hurricanes. She is the director of women’s hockey for Neutral Zone LLC, a scouting service.
Girls team
• Director of hockey operations – Genna Phelan.
• Head coach – Jess Cameron.
• Assistant coach – Rebecca Babiak.
• Assistant coach – Sami-Jo Sentner.
• Assistant coach – Emma Weatherbie.
• Director of goaltending – Drew MacIntyre.
Beck has been the head coach of the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Knights since 2016.
From 2012-16, he was an assistant coach with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Charlottetown Islanders.
Beck had an opportunity to play at the 2002 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. He played for the Charlottetown Abbies junior A squad from 2002-06 and finished his playing career with the SUNY Potsdam Bears (NCAA) from 2006-09.
He coached Team P.E.I. at the 2015 Games in Prince George, B.C. That staff also included Glenn Gaudet and Mark Carragher, who return with Beck for the 2023 experience.
Boys team

• Head coach – Luke Beck.
• Assistant coach – Nathan McIver.
• Assistant coach – Mark Carragher.
• Assistant coach – Ben MacDonald.
• Director of goaltending – Drew MacIntyre.
The athletic therapist and equipment managers will be announced at a later time.
The Games will take place from Feb. 18 to March 5 with the boys tournament taking place in Week 1 and the girls in the second week.
