Celebrating One Year to Go until the 2023 Canada Winter Games
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island — In exactly one year, the 2023 Canada Winter Games will get underway in PEI! To mark the occasion, the Host Society announced today the launch of the online volunteer application portal, and welcomed Karbon as the official volunteer uniform outfitter.
In just 365 days, the 2023 Canada Winter Games will bring together 3,600 athletes, managers and coaches, across 20 different sports, for the largest multi-sport event in the country. With a forecasted economic impact of over $100 million, the 29th edition of the Canada Games will be the largest event hosted in Prince Edward Island’s history.
Yesterday, Island communities from tip-to-tip kicked-off celebrations for the One Year Out Countdown by showcasing their excitement online for the Games as part of 2023 Canada Games Spirit Day.
Today, the 2023 Host Society officially launched its online volunteer application portal, inviting Islanders to apply to become a Games-time volunteer for the Atlantic Lottery Volunteer Program.
In order to host the largest event in the province’s history, the 2023 Canada Games Host Society is looking for the enthusiasm, hospitality, and expertise of approximately 5,000 volunteers in a variety of roles to help deliver a life-shaping Games experience for all participants. Over 500 bilingual volunteers will also be recruited to deliver a Games experience in both of Canada’s Official Languages.
Volunteers will receive comprehensive training and orientation, experience in the sports and entertainment industry, a Karbon winter uniform and an accreditation badge.
“This is a pivotal moment in the planning phases for the Games, and we’re very excited to start the volunteer recruitment process,” said Karolyn Godfrey, VP, Vision, Volunteers and Community Relations, 2023 Canada Games Host Society. “Our volunteers are the lifeblood of the Games, and it takes thousands of people working together to plan and support all the athletic and cultural events around the Games.”
“At Atlantic Lottery, we are getting more excited by the day about the 2023 Games and the opportunity it will provide us to connect with one another once again," said Patrick Daigle, Atlantic Lottery President and CEO. "We simply cannot wait to share PEI with the rest of the country and bring our beautiful region into the spotlight.”
The 2023 Canada Winter Games Host Society is also excited to welcome Karbon, a Canadian company raising the bar for technical apparel, as the official volunteer uniform outfitter.
“Since 1997, Karbon a wholly owned Canadian company, has been committed to supporting and promoting amateur sports globally. Karbon is known for designing and producing exceptional technical sports apparel. Karbon is worn by National and Olympic Teams, as well as many world class athletes,” said Peter Schure, VP, Marketing, Schure Sports. “Karbon is most excited to be named the official volunteer uniform outfitter for the 2023 Winter Canada Games. After two decades of supporting many provincial teams at the Canada Games, we are pleased to be working with the host society. We are confident that the Karbon garments will provide exceptional performance and comfort for the Canada Games volunteers.”
The official volunteer uniform design for the 2023 Games was revealed today. Sporting a vibrant two-tone blue and green design, every volunteer who volunteers at least 32 hours of their time during the Games will receive a uniform kit consisting of a long-sleeve technical shirt, mid-layer full zip jacket, winter jacket and toque.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Karbon as the official volunteer uniform outfitter for PEI 2023,” said Jonathan Ross, VP, Sponsorship and Revenue Generation, 2023 Canada Games Host Society. “ Karbon is a longtime champion for youth and amateur sport in our country and we’d like to thank them for their expertise and collaboration in creating our volunteer uniform. These high-quality garments are the perfect blend of performance and style and will serve as a proud keepsake for our dedicated volunteers.”
The 2023 Canada Games is made possible thanks to the Government of Canada, the Province of Prince Edward Island, and supporters like Atlantic Lottery and Karbon.
