2023 Canada Games Announces Official Torchbearers

Charlottetown, PE (October 25, 2022) — The 2023 Canada Games Host Society is excited to reveal the first wave of inspiring Islanders who have been named as Torchbearers for the Cavendish Farms Torch Relay. 

“Congratulations to these outstanding leaders in youth, sport, and community who are making an impact in communities across PEI,” said Karolyn Godfrey, Volunteer VP of Vision, Volunteers & Community Relations, 2023 Canada Games Host Society. “The Cavendish Farms Torch Relay is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the Canada Games movement and the next generation of national, international, Olympic, Paralympic and Special Olympic champions.”

Over 600 torchbearer nominations were received and reviewed by the 2023 Canada Winter Games Torch Relay selection committee. 

“We are thrilled so many Islanders put their names forward to be Torchbearers for the upcoming Canada Games, including some of our employees,” said Robert K. Irving, President of Cavendish Farms. “We’re pleased to support the torch relay as it travels throughout communities across Prince Edward Island leading up to this national event. I hope everyone comes out to support torch events in the various communities.”

The Cavendish Farms Torch Relay officially kicked-off in Ottawa on October 17, 2022 with the torch being lit from the Centennial Flame on Parliament Hill. The Roly McLenahan Torch Will visit over 20 communities in PEI and into the Maritimes, before arriving at the Opening Ceremony on February 18, 2023. 

Upcoming Cavendish Farms Torch Relay events to kick off the start of November include: 

Borden-Carleton - November 2, 2022

Torch Relay begins: 1:00 p.m.

Start:  Off the Confederation Bridge - Abegweit Blvd, Borden-Carleton, PE C0B 1X0

End:  Amherst Cove Consolidated School – 300 Carleton St, Borden-Carleton, PE C0B 1X0

Summerside - November 9, 2022

Torch Relay begins: 1:30 p.m.

Start/End: 2023 Canada Games Multi-Sport Dome at Credit Union Place – 511 Notre Dame St, Summerside, PE C1N 1T2

Wellington - November 18, 2022

Torch Relay begins: 5:00 p.m.

Start/end:  Wellington Vanier Centre - 25 Mill Road, Wellington Station, PE C0B 2E0

Tyne Valley - November 22, 2022

Torch Relay begins: 4:45 p.m.

Start/end: Cavendish Farms Community Events Centre - 7480 PE-12 #7078, Tyne Valley, PE C0B 2C0

Each Torch Relay event will lead into a “Road to the Games” community celebration featuring local artists and musicians. Programming details will be announced next week.
